What is rib remodeling?
Rib remodeling is a minimally invasive procedure that narrows the waist by reshaping the angle of the three lowest ribs (10, 11 and 12) with an ultrasonic device. The ribs are preserved and repositioned — not removed — and there is no scar.
Is rib remodeling the same as rib removal?
No. Rib removal takes the rib out through an open incision. Rib remodeling preserves the rib and gently reshapes its angle using ultrasonic energy through minimal access. It is a modern, conservative alternative to the old rib-removal idea.
Which ribs are involved?
Only the three lowest ribs — ribs 10, 11 and 12. These are the floating and false ribs that flare outward and set the width of the waist. They are not attached to the breastbone in front, which is why their angle can be remodelled.
Will there be a visible scar?
No scar. The procedure is performed through minimal, discreet access rather than an open incision.
Why can’t liposuction narrow my waist instead?
Liposuction only removes fat. When the width of the waist comes from the bony rib flare rather than fat, liposuction cannot change it. Rib remodeling addresses the bone itself — and the two are often combined for the best result.
Can rib remodeling be combined with other procedures?
Yes. Rib remodeling is a remodeling procedure on its own, but it can be associated with liposuction of the waist and flanks, or with an abdominoplasty, to refine the overlying fat and skin. Each complements the other — combined, they give a more complete, defined result.
Does it affect breathing or the organs?
No. Because nothing is removed — the rib is only remodelled and preserved — there is no disturbance to breathing or to the underlying organs. The rib cage keeps its integrity; only its angle is gently eased inward.
How long until I see the final waistline?
The waist looks narrower early on, but swelling takes time to resolve. The final, defined contour settles over three to six months as the remodelled ribs and soft tissue consolidate.
Is it permanent?
Yes — the results are permanent, as long as you do not become pregnant again or gain significant weight. A future pregnancy or major weight gain can open the rib cage once more; with a stable weight and no further pregnancies, the narrower waist lasts.
Who is a good candidate?
Someone slim or near their goal weight whose waist stays wide or straight because of the lower rib flare, who wants a more defined hourglass, and who is in good general health with realistic expectations.
